"Shot on location in Big Bear Lake in California, "The Beast and the Vixens" is a fun-filled romp about a Bigfoot-like beast that terrorizes women in the woods as criminals and hippies clash in this wild blend of sex, horror, and 1970s sexploitation." - synopsis provided by the distributor
Video: 1/5
Here’s the information provided about this release's transfer, "With only a prior VHS release, the original negative for this picture had been long lost; however, Dark Force Entertainment located the only surviving 35mm prints (with some extra reels from the shorter adult film version) and completed a new 2K scan of the original horror version with added softcore scenes for the first-ever Hi-Def Blu-ray release of The Beast and the Vixens."
The Beast and the Vixens comes on a 25 GB single layer Blu-ray.
Disc Size: 20.1 GB
Feature: 19.8 GB
The source, similar to other drive-in releases from Dark Force, is in poor condition, exhibiting damage throughout, including nicks, scratches, and emulsion stains. The screenshots below give you a clear idea of what to expect.
Audio: 2/5
This release comes with one audio option, a DTS-HD mono mix in English. The audio, like the video, has imperfections; that said, it is serviceable.
Extras:
The only extra is an audio commentary labeled 'Dark Force Savage Tracks' featuring label heads The Demon (Dark Force Entertainment), Joe Rubin (Vinegar Syndrome), and David Gregory (Severin Films).
Summary:
A sasquatch collects beautiful women who camp near his home.
There is an opening prologue that sets things up, and tone-wise it does match what follows. After the opening credits, the film consists solely of a series of moments featuring characters engaging in sexual activities or a Sasquatch abducting women. No time is devoted to backstory or important things like why a Sasquatch is abducting women.
From a production standpoint, The Beast and the Vixens is a film with few resources. While the narrative runs for just 79 minutes, it feels slow and tedious, making it difficult to stay engaged. Even a nude lesbian cowboy dream sequence fails to capture attention. That said, when the narrative is not being padded with nudity, there are a few violent sequences involving the sasquatch. Ultimately, The Beast and the Vixens is nothing more than a Z-grade schlock that only someone like Ed Wood would admire.
Dark Force Entertainment continues to lead the pack when it comes to deep cuts that would otherwise not be released. Unfortunately, for those who are fans of The Beast and the Vixens, the source looks rough.
