Summary:
German cinema has a long tradition of extreme horror films. Content-wise, La Petite Mort 2: Nasty Tapes is cut from that same mold. These films feature transgressive subject matter, notably acts of self-mutilation and torture in which body parts are removed. The Saw and Hostel films series are American cinema’s counterparts to these types of films.
La Petite Mort 2: Nasty Tapes is a continuation of La Petite Mort. And though La Petite Mort 2: Nasty Tapes is a sequel whose narrative picks up after its predecessor's ending. La Petite Mort 2: Nasty Tapes It is a different kind of film when compared to La Petite Mort. For instance, La Petite Mort takes on a faux documentary vibe in which the participants often break the fourth wall by acknowledging the viewer. Where its predecessor, La Petite Mort, is more of a straight-forward narrative.
The loosely constructed narrative features moments in between ten torture sequences in which the hosts give a guided tour of the carnage that is unfolding. Needless to say, what lies within is not for the faint of heart or anyone with a weak stomach. The carnage is gruesome, with gruesome moments of unflinching sadistic torture that include a moment of Nazi festism. Ultimately, there is an audience for films like La Petite Mort 2: Nasty Tapes. Unfortunately, if you're not already a fan of German splatter films, then La Petite Mort 2: Nasty Tapes is not going to make you one.
La Petite Mort 2: Nasty Tapes gets a strong release from Unearthed Films that comes with a solid audio/video presentation.
